Fiscal 2023 DIF Account

Ascending Debt

Don't forget our bond payments get higher every year

Look at how much they have gone up from FY 2021 to FY 2023

Starting in FY 2024, there is no more "capitalized interest"

If the city has a plan they are keeping it top secret and buried UNDER City Hall. (Other than continued,, sustained, substantial tax increases and reductions in services; that train is never late).

Thanks, Ed!

Getting back to ORH, Holy Cross is heading west to play South Dakota State. I just read the send off article on the Telegram website and this excerpt caught my attention, “ Holy Cross cheerleaders, fans and friends yelled and applauded the Crusaders as they left the Luth to board buses to take them to T.F. Green Airport in Providence for their charter flight.”

If they’re flying a charter flight why did they have to go to T. F. Green?

The plane they used is a Boeing 767, that plane can’t land at ORH because the runway is too short. That’s another thing that could potentially stop a freight hub from being here and why Bradley will most likely get it over Worcester because there’s not enough space to extend the bigger runway (29/11)

^11/29 is plenty long enough & capable for a 767. ORH has hosted several C17 Globemasters & once a 747 back in the ‘90’s. The runway 150’ wide (same as any major runway spare SOME 200’ ones at say JFK & LAX, etc (the real big dog airports) & is rated for the same weight as all the main runways at Logan Int’l.. A fully loaded A380 could land on 11/29 if it wanted to & the runway would take it weight wise. It would just be forever stuck at the airport if it did. 7K is long enough for a 767. Hansom AFB gets semi-regular 767 sports charters (one every month or 2) and also has a 7K runway. The taxiways are the restriction at ORH not the runway. Sure it can land, but it has nowhere to turn off should it land 29 (Gulf is too small) & a 767 can’t do a 180 like a A320 can. Hence why ORH is finally starting construction of the full parallel taxi lane in 2023. Just one thing in a long list of improvements to the airport’s infrastructure that are well overdue. The city never wanted to fund improvements at the airport. So while TF Green & Bradley grew, Worcester stood stagnant in the ‘90’s & ‘00’s. If Massport had owned the Airport outright earlier, I imagine most of these improvements we’ve seen since 2015 would’ve been done decades ago.

^^ Also side note there is ample, ample space to extend Runway 11/29 to approx 9,000 - 9,500 feet. The land past the threshold of 11 is already flat & unused. Mulberry St would just become 2 dead end roads (something I doubt anyone would complain about as there’s connections to the road less than 1/4 mile in each direction). The ILS installed would have to be moved back to the other side of Mannville St, but that’s a non-issue as even that land is mostly flat. It’s all mostly flat (or close enough to be graded flat with equipment) all the way back to Rte 56. Massport also OWNS all the land between the end of 11 and Rte 56 specifically so they can extend the runway. Currently it’s just not needed as there’s no Justification for such an exorbitant capital expenditure project. Historically Leicester has pushed back HEAVILY on any proposal to extend 11/29 in the past but now that Massport owns the land outright if they so desired they most likely could in the future. I’m sure Leicester would protest once more but to what ground they would have to actually stand on im not sure.

Air Force One landed and took off at PRH when President Obama came to Worcester to honor our teacher of the year (Ms Harrington?)

^That was on a 757-200 commonly known as Air Force 2 as it’s the VP’s main aircraft, but was obviously in this case Air Force 1 as the former president was using it. It was accompanied by a C17 Globemaster however.

The A320 upgrade at ORH definitely Seems to be successful. Coming home the Wednesday after MLK and the flight has about 50% of its seats booked. Now that might sound like a little, but keep in mind the A320 is a 162 seat aircraft. The E190 which used to do the route, is a 100 seat aircraft. Lot of days where there’s more than 100 seats booked. When the data comes in for May June etc., anything over 60% means that if an E190 did the flight, the flight would be overbooked. Hopefully when the data comes we see that and hopefully JetBlue sees that as well to show that demand is high and potentially add the Orlando flight back soon. Yes, work needs to be done on the runway, and expansion might have to wait until after, but there’s a gap right now between 7 and 3 where there’s an empty JetBlue gate at ORH. It could have potential to add a flight at that time.

Today’s AM flight to JFK delayed… jet bridge frozen
Anonymous said…
The real story. Reason for delay was frozen fuel truck. Jetbridge was OTS too, but the Massport team was at the ready with heavy equipment to pull the bridge off when Atlantic finally fueled. Ps. Massport mechanics help getting their fuel truck back in service too.
