Guys, this was a mechanical issue with the airplane. All hands were working. The Flight attendant couldnt disarm the emergency slide and if she opened the door, the slide would have deployed into the jetbridge, injuring the agent, blocking the exit and putting the plane out of service. we grabbed the mobile stairs, and exited the passengers out the rear door AND HAD THE PASSENGERS DEPLANE ACROSS THE TARMAC, just as Jeremy reommended. All in all that took about 20 minutes. Everyone on duty pitched in, including the State Police escorting the passengers to the terminal. Great team effort. Mechanicals happen, and we had a fall back plan in place

Another ready - fire then aim. Get the facts before assuming there was no one to open the door. Fact. Upon arrival, the stewardess could not disengage the emergency slide from the front door. Kudos to jetblue to get a set of mobile stairs as quickly as possible and get everyone off safely even getting assistance from airport police to escort them into the building. This could have happened at any airport to any airline. Dont make this a worcester thing and please, PLEASE, get your facts before concluding that this "happened again".

Maybe someone at Massport should call JB to tell them to stop sending their crappy planes to ORH. How many times did this issue happen at TF Green or Logan in the past three months? Since they have a combined hundreds of more daily flights this should happen there on a more frequent basis.

^ That idea is pretty good however, there’s one thing about the A220s compared to the E190s, they have more seats. Meaning flight loads will technically drop if they choose to do that. The one thing that I wonder is, why didn’t JetBlue order the A220-100 instead of the A220-300 or possibly split the order where it was 50/50? I can understand some routes have more of a possibility of having more people (Boston to JFK or DC for example), but in a route like Worcester to JFK, where most days it’s not sold out, your just going to have more open seats since more seats are available on that aircraft. For example, if the Worcester to Fort Lauderdale flights averages 70 people per flight, then on the E190 that’s 70% full which isn’t that bad. But if it still averages 70 people per flight with the A220, now your looking at 50% full which is pretty bad.
It’s just a questionable decision that doesn’t have an actual answer. Even though it’s one of the cheaper aircraft to operate as well and one of the most efficient which should result in lower ticket sales, what if Worcester doesn’t see an increase in travel because of it? Who knows how many people actually know about the flights out of Worcester. It’s been mentioned lately that Breeze has a billboard on 290 for flights out of TF Green, and you can easily see it. Why? Remember how bad traffic gets between 3 and 7 going towards Downtown Worcester from Lincoln Plaza and Shrewsbury. You have to go slow and that billboard is right there for everyone to see it.

Delta is one airline too that loves the A220-100 as well on flights where their own crew operates the flight and not republic airways or any of them. They’ve had a lot of success with it and a lot of people who have been on it have had very positive experiences with it as well. The real question remains why didn’t JetBlue order any of those when delta has had great success with them?

I would argue that with a serious marketing campaign these routes could get to 70% loads on the larger plane.

Just to clarify my comments about the Breeze/TF Green advertisement I saw on a billboard on I-290...... It's one of the digital billboards. It seems to cycle through pretty frequently though. Last week I was on I-290 in traffic and saw the advertisement cycle through twice while I was crawling along.

On an unrelated note, I'll take Worcester traffic over the Boston traffic any day.

I bet it could get to 80%+ common sense. However, I don’t see any marketing being spent because if they’re not spending it, what’s holding them back? Demand for travel is back to pre Covid levels, people want to fly again especially to Florida, and they want convenience which worcester has. Since more seats will be available on a A220, tickets would be cheaper because of it. But people need to know about it like what is holding them back right now on advertising the airport? It’s not money, so what else is it?

This time of year is the perfect time to promote the airport because people traveling in the summer are booking flights and soon people that travel on Thanksgiving and Christmas will look as well. All you need is around 100 more people to book flights from ORH and revenue for the airlines will increase, passengers using the airport will increase, flight loads will increase, and a lot more benefits. 100 people a day seems low, but that’s 36,500 people. I guarantee you also there would be people that live closer to Boston than Worcester that would use Worcester airport if they heard that parking was free till the end of June and then only $42 a week once that ends as well as have 3 flights to JFK a day and a flight to LGA 6 days a week, all using 3 of the top airlines in the United States. That alone would bring so many business travelers to the area. Massport really has no idea what potential this airport really has if they market it correctly and what they could be bringing in with enough promoting of it.

The Delta flight being moved to later in the day is going to kill that option for a lot of people. Getting into LaGuardia that late in the day your connection opportunities are extremely limited. On one of the other threads I posted about how to get to West Palm Beach from ORH on Delta in June I'd have to make 2 stops, LaGuardia and Atlanta, and I wouldn't get into West Palm until after 1am. Its just not even something I'm even willing to consider.

Maybe I'll give Breeze a try out of Providence.....

Maybe Massport's interest in turning ORH into a successful passenger facility is secondary to its intention all along to turn it into an air cargo facility? There were suspicions of this back in the late 80's when Massport wanted to buy the airport from the City. That's the main reason the city council ran them out of town then. Just a thought. Might explain why they invested $100 million+ to upgrade the airport, yet won't kick in $500,000 for a marketing campaign.
