Fiscal 2023 DIF Account

811-813 Main Street

 Little History Lesson.

Twenty years ago, the City of Worcester sold these two lots for $10,000 in August of 2002 for $10,000.

Click here to see the deed.

The buyer was suppose to develop the lot for off street parking and needed to start within one year, per the terms of the deed.

Flash forward 20 years

  •  No work ever started
  • One would seem to think a violation of the agreement
  •   We never got a parking lot.

Now we read that  the City of Worcester is releasing deed restrictions and the property is being sold.    Although the property was sold at a reduced price and none of the work, per terms of the  deed were ever done, the City of Worcester is releasing deed restrictions.......

Here is two million dollar question.

What are these lots being sold for??

Is the city charging the current owner anything for this release???

JetBlue is cutting ORH flights on September 8th.
Instead of 2, there'll only be one JFK-ORH flight. No MCO flight either.

I wonder what Andy Davis has to say about this...
I also wonder what Andy Davis has to say about marketing of the airport...

There never was an MCO flight since before Covid. They don’t release flights to book until they’re announced. JetBlue is letting American do the mid day turn instead. Plus who knows, maybe they’re rearranging their schedule because it’s hard to predict what will happen or schedule flights that far out. They know that the FLL flight is good so you can book out to 2023 and delta knows that there’s is good too so they’re doing the same. Booking a year out in advance is risky because schedules can change.

JetBlue is not cutting the flight entirely. The one flight that is not on the schedule is back in November. JetBlue will have both Flights in November again, as it seems to be just for a month a half with one flight.

I don't know if you saw Spectrum News but the old fire station on Cambridge St is for sale for almost $800,000. The City sold it for $25,000 and had a deed restriction that says it was supposed to be a residential building that can accommodate someone with special needs. The virtual tour appears to have it as offices. Does the City enforce any of their restrictions on their deeds?

Enjoyed Cats at the Hanover last night, Unfortunatly, the problems at the Federal Plaza Garage continue. One of the two elevators was completely shut down. The other one kept getting stuck on each floor. There were a lot of unhappy people. Not the type of impression you want people coming to spend their money in Downtown Worcester to have. Where is the money that the City allocates to fix such facilities going? A disgrace!!

I have heard about the condition of the garage for some time now. In addition to the condition people have said there are vehicle break ins. The City needs to resolve these issues because things like this could stop you from coming back.

The money that the City needs to resolve these issues is being used for the baseball stadium payments so all you guys that go to the Hanover just suck it up and stop complaining!

The Hanover Theatre has been open since 2008. These issues have been going on long before the ballpark was on anyone’s radar. Knock off the blaming the ballpark for everything baloney.

The condition of the garage is because the City does not take care of any of their buildings until they are ready to collapse. Look at the Pearl Elm garage, they almost completely rebuilt it. How much did that cost? Now that they are using the garages for WooSox games at lower rates how do they receive enough money to fix the Federal Plaza garage? The City should maintain all the garages.

Do they have money to fix potholes and roads? How about doing that first!

The garage now gets additional revenue because of the Red Sox. I’d rather have a full garage with lower parking rates than an empty garage with zero revenue.

I was told that the parking fees on City garages and lots on game days go to pay for the ballpark.
Anonymous said…
Are you sure that the garage revenue isn’t another income stream going to the WooSox owners like the concessions in the ballpark that the city “owns”?

That would align with every other aspect of this horribly negotiated “deal”

I am just telling you what someone from the City told me. The farther away from the park the fees decrease and the revenues go to paying for the ball park construction.

There is a comment about the streets. Why is it the City lets the garages, the auditorium and streets fall into disrepair and no one questions it. I thought this is what we pay taxes for. I had hoped that new voices on the City Council would have changed the discussions but they haven't . Someone has to come up with solutions but I can't see it happening with the crew in City Hall.

The crew in city hall is getting worse. The new woke councilors are all in on punishing taxpayers and have not the slightest clue on how to operate a functioning city.

They are bent on creating an employment free, rent free, automobile free zone full of poor people with no prospects to rise above poverty. Everyone will have the same exact “equitable” outcome and be 100% dependent on them. If you fall out of the party line, you starve.

People need to get out and vote next election and bring in people who have brains as well as eyes and ears

I like to think I am am everyday middle class (lower middle class) property owner. I will admit up until COVID I had not watched or participated in the activities of the City and it was not until someone called my attention to this blog did I even question the City. I now realize the only way we middle class taxpayers can get things done is to call into City Council meetings and express our opinions, similar to the people who have an issue. I have called in a couple of times and when they announced my phone number I got stage fright and just said I was just listening. We need to speak up on the City just delivering on the basic services without hitting us with excessive taxes and fees.

JetBlue is turning to be a horrible airline. They cancelled a full flight to Worcester tonight with literally zero explanation. Sad to hear people they will never fly out of Worcester again.
Anonymous said…
Jetblue honestly sucks!! They have become the worst airline. The flights were almost sold out and they canceled. Now it means some of tomorrow’s flights are also canceled.

Go read the Ray Mariano article in the Telegram. It details how the City Council doesn't do their jobs.

Not "almost" sold out, but SOLD OUT. Cancelled a sold out flight to Worcester 5 minutes before departure at 12:30AM. No explanation and told everyone to go pound sand! What a pathetic airline. They used to be great …

Read a couple of days ago that Breeze is going to provide TF Green with its first non-stop West Coast flights.

My Jet Blie experiences have been nearly flawless, including through ORH except for once when there was no mechanic at the airport and once die to a blizzard.

I’ve had much worse experiences with other airlines. Always.

Wow. The ground crew all went home for the day even though a scheduled flight was due to land at ORH.

Good thing that the air traffic controllers stuck around.
