It doesn’t state in the article it’s being demolished. Has a demolition already started? I have not been on Chandler St. recently.

There was construction fencing around the site when air drove by a week ago

There was construction fencing around the church on Summer Street when they started working on an apartment project so it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s being demolished. The selling price seems to be quite high just to do a tear down.

Tear downs and new builds are often less expensive than trying to bring an antiquated structure past its useful life up to current codes.

That said, there is an income o generating business on the first floor that might mitigate that (assuming that it meets defines, electric, plumbing, fat oil grease codes etc already

Looks like there will be a JetBlue schedule change at ORH on September 6th, 2023. It appears that as of that date there will only be one flight per day on JetBlue to JFK departing ORH at 8:20pm. It's on the JetBlue website. I decided to give ORH another shot and I found the schedule change while trying to check out fares from ORH to Fort Myers. With that new schedule there's no option to get to Fort Myers without overnighting at JFK so I'll once again be booking out of TF Green. Arriving at JFK at almost 9:30pm pretty much kills most connection opportunities so that will probably eventually be the end of that route. I could go on Delta but that wouldn't get me into Fort Myers until after 11pm so that was a definite NO also.

It's disappointing to see all the airports around us adding service while ORH remains stagnant. There's got to be a reason no airlines want to come here or improve the service they have here.

Wow. Losing that early morning JB flight to JFK in exchange for a useless late evening flight to nowhere would be a huge mistake.

I hope that it is just a mistaken schedule or interim only.

That early JFK flight always had at least a half full plane when I’ve taken it. It was the best way to get to NYC for business.

I just plugged in some different dates to see if this was a permanent change and it looks like the schedule will revert back to twice a day at the end of October.

Even though this change is only for two months I believe this will drive even more people away from using ORH.

Agreed ORH Fan. If people don’t believe that they can rely on the airport, they will simply not consider it given all of the credible alternatives that are available.

It’s a shame because ORH is so super convenient.

Flew home today from Puerto Rico and the flight from JFK was 70% full. Great to be able to go almost anywhere and land back at ORH. I hope there is some good news this year about expanding service. Also CapeAir is big there, they flew over our hotel all day. It would be nice to have them at least with seasonal service in the summer.

ORH announcement soon

what kind of announcement?

Although Spectrum News is reporting that Jetblue will be making a flight announcement Monday to a destination that they have not previously flown to out of ORH, it does appear that ORH is getting the nonstop flight to Orlando back based on a search I just did for a trip next January 3rd - 10th, 2024 on Jetblue out of ORH. So either Spectrum News has their information wrong or we might have 2 new flights coming our way.

I’m booking JB to fly to Dallas in May 59 min layover at JFK

It is Orlando and Ft Myers.

Very nice.

Today's announcement was what I was informed of. Based off times, i believe the flights are going to start mixing (arrive from one dest ex. FLL, dep to another ex. RSW). This is basically the norm at any airport with more than a few flights and is a welcomed sign. It allows for more diverse times for each destination & also requires much MUCH more complex aircraft & crew scheduling which shows JetBlue is committed to the long term with ORH. Otherwise, they'd continue their out & back approach. RSW flight starts seasonal, 2x a week; then switches to Daily after 1 month. Expect this flight to become year-round daily permanent after just one season. I've been told they're already planning on it, it's just being labeled seasonal to start in case it somehow flops.

Side note: All flights to ORH are switching to permanent A320 operations. This includes JFK. Will it make a difference for JFK? Probably not, but it will lower prices slightly as the per seat cost goes down. This is 100% due to E190 phasing out & has nothing to do with high demand. This of course means all MCO & RSW flights will benefit from A320's seat count as well. As to why JFK flights are not switching to A220 operations, its simple. JFK is not an A220 base. Boston is the A220 base. Keeping all flights the same aircraft type simplifies crew scheduling & once again allows flight mixing (ex. a JFK-ORH flight can leave as a ORH-MCO flight)

I do hate that JetBlue is phasing out its early morningJFK flight.

It willll drive me to use ORH much less, unfortunately.
Rusty said…
They’re not phasing it out. It’s going away for the summer only to comply with a requirement in JFK for each carrier to cut 10% of their service to JFK. The morning JFK flight is back come October & can be booked for a 6:15am departure straight through to the end of the calendar (currently March 2024).
Rusty said…
^My previous comment is outdated & the JFK flights have indeed been removed from the booking calender. Come June, all Jetbkue JFK flights are removed permanently.

At least the politicians all got a nice photo op the other day. I wonder if they knew the JFK flights were being cut when they were singing the praises of ORH and posing for photos.

Sorry, meant to say "singing the praises of Jetblue".

Unfortunately losing that 6:15 am flight to JFK is going to be bad for ORH

It vastly reduces the utility of the airport to people that fly a lot, like me and are less sensitive to price than time, schedule and convenience.

I hope that people going to FL can sustain the airport
