Taxpayers Complaining About Their Real Estate Tax Bills

Noticed alot of comments this week on various boards about the City of Worcester tax bills.

Many people talk about holding City Councilors accountable, maybe thees should have:

  1. Voted against the Community Preservation Act, which was passed in the City of Worcester
  2. Not supported $160,000,000 Polar Park which will cost the taxpayers millions each year while paying no real estate taxes

The residential tax rate went down but assessments are up. Hence higher tax bills. Has nothing to do with Polar Park and everything to do with the hot housing market. I just saw an article that residents were also complaining in Millbury & Grafton about their tax bills.

And by the way, the CPA add doesn’t start until the next fiscal year (July 1st). And I did not support it.

Increased taxes are related to increased City budgets (spending). The valuations and tax rates is just the math which determines who pays for the increased spending. If the budget pays for the bonds for the construction of Polar Park that would be part of the tax bill increase.

One of your older posts had a chart from the City that states the additional taxes must pay $2,700,000.00. Looking at the property records on the City website the developments come no where close to this amount never mind trying to figure out how much is increased taxes. Would the WooSox payment of taxes on the $160,000,000.00 ballpark cover the shortfall?

Has nothing to do with polar park. Lol. Every fee and tax has gone up. If they covered the bonds then there would be no need. Just a different way to skin the cat.

Get ready for more. WBJ announces woosox to temporarily take over delayed building space while spectrum and this week in Worcester make it sound more permanent with the scope of the project. Which is it, who’s paying for these renovations and additions? Do we have a lease with the Sox covering the terms on payments and length or will the just assume squatters rights? Was this the original plan? Where is the ballpark commission that was supposed to keep the public informed to provide the promised Transparency. And oh yeah. Shuttle service will be expanded. One of the side businesses set up by the in crowd. Lol. While we subsidize and cut services for the wrta.
