What are the odds Augustus is going to tell you before he leaves?

Ed just wrote an Op Ed in the T&G listing all of his accomplishments as city manager.
What kind of egomaniac does that?

I guess Ed was too busy writing an Op Ed than to calculate the final cost of Polar Park and the bill he is leaving for us to pay on a ball park that was not suppose to cost us anything.

Augustus has always been a politician and the Op Ed is what politicians do.

One fearful possibility is that the cost is so high, and the fiscal impact on taxpayers so bad that the city is hiding the information.

A worse possibility is that the city doesn't know and has no clue how to or to stop additional cost spiral.

The financial impact on the taxpayers is probably going to be in the range of $4 million a year because the development is not occurring as promised. I think the bigger issue, and I am grabbing the phrase from the post on the drones, is the Bait and Switch which seems to be a consistent pattern. Building a ballpark to lease to a private entity on the assumption that it would not cost the taxpayers was a bad precedent and fueled by emotion. What makes the situation worse is the private entity is only responsible for 30% of the construction costs and most likely are making money beyond their expections while the taxpayers assumed most of the risk and with the development being downsized or substantially delayed the risk to the taxpayers is high. The issue probably is there are two new City Councilors who were not involved in the original deal(s) and who are surprisingly not just rubber stamping what the City says and they are probably worried that questions will be asked.

Don't forget the questionable sweet heart tax deal that the City gave the WooSox along with building them a ball park.

Bait and Switch, I spent awhile looking back to an old post which had a video of walking to the park from downtown. You should repost it and think about what's there now. Talk about a Bait and Switch.
