Actually flying from West Palm Beach to Worcester in a couple weeks but using Delta. I think it would be a great idea for a flight if Breeze got it. There’s a ton of Florida beaches that surround that area which would make it great for the snowbirds as well as people who go on vacation down there since it’s not that far from Fort Lauderdale and could act like a 2nd flight to that area if people really wanted to go.

Agreed. Breeze would be a great fit for Worcester. I think the best line up for Worcester would be JB, Delta, Southwest and Breeze or a similar airline. I don’t see AA in our future much longer.

Hopefully Delta can add more flights soon... that would put a little pressure on JetBlue and the unwillingness to add a fourth flight.
The addition of Breeze would greatly compliment ORH as well... Problem is that Breeze is only using their E190s for shorter flights (1h-1-1/2h)... Not enough to ORH-FL flights yet.

JB is currently cancelling a fair amount of flights to ORH. All 3 flights are affected across numerous days. This is NOT due to low pax count. This is a staff shortage in regards to inflight staff. JB’s finalized End of Dec & all of January schedule has all 3 flights running daily. These cancellations where not planned. Again the recent & subsequent JB cancellation’s across the board at ORH are due to staff shortages not low pax counts.

Have some further info in regards upcoming developments. Heavy cargo, most likely Amazon, is coming to ORH in the near future. Like 2-3 years near future. It has been confirmed that the rehabilitation of taxiway Bravo was in fact a strengthening & widening project to accommodate cargo aircraft coming up Bravo & turning into Foxtrot tie downs (more in that in a bit). A bid has currently been put out to lengthen 15/33 on the northern end. No word on if the bid includes widening to 150’. All I’ve seen so far is that it’s a lengthen project. The Foxtrot tie downs are currently being evaluated for a full rehabilitation and strengthening to bring the up the pavement depth to accommodate commercial aircraft parking & operations. This rehabilitation would include a reconfigure of the taxi lane up Foxtrot with commercial sized parking spots This is still developing and do not have all the details but will update when I know more.

Not sure who you work for, but you should be terminated. Your releasing info. that should be confidential until an announcemet is made to the general public.
I'm sure Amazon is thrilled about you revealing their business plans 2-3 years down the road. Not a good idea to put a cargo facility at an airport surrounded by residential neighborhoods. The neighbors will not allow that to happen. They stopped UPS from building a cargo facility there years ago. Massport does have a right to allow such a facility there. What the neighbors will do is file a lawsuit against Massport just like the people in East Boston did when they wanted to build their 5000 ft. commuter runway. I think that was tied up in the courts for 30 years. These are the same neighbors that filed a federal lawsuit against the City to stop the construction of the current terminal. Any money that Massport is spending to upgrade taxiways is wasted.
It's never going to happen.

Forgot to mention that 12 people in the airport neighborhood stopped the construction of an airport access road from I-290. The state was willing to foot the whole bill. These people put so much pressure on our city councilors that the road never happened. You got to remember that the chairman of the Massport board is an elected official in our community. You think he wants to lose votes and risk losing his day job?

Public Bid’s are exactly that…public. Nothing confidential there Gary… Eat a snickers my friend. The Taxiway Bravo bids already been completed 6 months ago. The other ones an open bid rn & the tie downs is a feasibility study. All public. Really hard to find the info online unless you know exactly where to look. If it was confidential info I wouldn’t be sharing it. This info is straight from Massport itself. If they didn’t want it shared, they wouldn’t have said it. Everyone and there mother knows Massports lobbying hard for cargo ops. With Amazon building 3 facilities in Worcester it’s a no brainer. I never said Amazon was for sure coming to ORH. Simply that’s is very likely based off what’s happening with Amazon in the city of Worcester rn. That’s not releasing their business plan. That’s simply stating something everyone is expecting them to do. Nothing ‘confidential’ here either. Foxtrot conversion to Cargo has been in the works for years. Long before the pandemic. Nothings ever been concrete hence I’ve never shared any info. I only share what’s public knowledge & has been confirmed.

Do you think Amazon would have built on the Wyman Gordon property if it was not tied up with the ball park and the residential development across the street. It has great road access like the Greendale Mall location.

Worcester "Regional" Airport makes perfect sense for cargo with the City's central location and road network. The only downside is traversing neighborhoods to accessing the road network. Not to spot Gary Samela but there appears to be some inconsistency in his logic when it comes to the airport and the ball park. Losing money on an airport is irresponsible but losing money on a ballpark is acceptable. Where do you draw the line on losing money? Back to Amazon flying into Worcester, they are a freight train coming down the tracks at full steam with they way we have become accustom to shopping online and I don't see that changing ever, unless people realize we are creating monopolies where our only choices will be Amazon or Walmart, so I hope the City is engaged to ensure the disruption to the neighborhoods which trucks and vans must drive thru is mitigated. Just look back to recent history with the rail yard and trucks driving thru Grafton Hill neighborhoods. The City has the time to plan for this, let's hope for once they do so.

The difference is we know for sure that the City and Massport have lost millions over the last 30 years owning the airport. As for the ballpark, it's been open for 9 months. How much money exactly is the City"losing" on the ballpark? Maybe the City will have to do some creative financial measures to cover the interest on the bonds the first few years, but most likely when the related projects come online things should be fine.

I would not be holding my breath until the projects come on line. They refer to that as suffocation and I don't think it is good for you.
Gary Samela said…
Hey Rusty: If it's appropriate for you to release this information then why don't you tell us your real name? I never heard of parents naming a child "Rusty". I think your some kind of rogue Massport employee that feels important by spilling trade secrets. Come out of the closet and then I might take you seriously.

Developers don't usually spend millions to aquire property, hire consultants and lawyers to draw up contracts and do prep. work just to not develop a project. I'm not sure if you know that we're in the middle of a world wide pandemic? Everything is being significantly delayed. Most of the new residential and commercial projects planned for the ballpark district (Cove and Table Talk) have already been approved by the planning board. What incentive do these developers have for doing nothing with their projects? Your just making yourself look foolish.

Hi, Rusty,

I’ve got an early February 6 am flight from ORH to FLL and back at the 7:25 flight a few days later.
Given the cancelations,am I better just going to Logan or has this flight been relatively untouched by the staff shortages?

And yes, that runway project info is public. City councilors talk about it (though not to anyone who lives by the airport)
Gary Samela said…
I've already contacted the mayor, the cty manager, all of the city councilors and our state reps. about my strong opposition to any cargo plans at ORH.Some of the neighbors in the Tatnuck area have gotten wind of these plans also. They're planning a potluck dinner in the neighborhood to discuss their legal options.
Gary Samela said…
I've spoken to 6 of our city councilors on the phone. They told me they didn't know anything about this. Just 2 people that refuse to tell us their real names. No credibility.
Rusty said…
To the Anonymous person who asked me about flight info going to FLL….I have no idea. That would be a question best directed to JetBlue. I do not work for the airport. I simply know many of the folks who do work there. I only know what they choose to share when we get together. I have no idea what JB is doing in regards to cancellations other than that they had cancelled a few this past week due to staff shortages.
Gary Samela said…
Do you tell your contacts at Massport that
what they tell you is being posted on a public blog? Seems like your some kind of glory seeker. I'm going to send Andy Davis an email to see if he knows that his employees are giving you this information.
I don't know what the purpose of you talking about this is other than to make yourself look important. What's your real name scoop?
