  Time to move off Polar Park for a couple of months.    Tired of never getting any answers to a taxpayer's questions...      

 

We will keep posting the Where's Waldo List and will address any item on it if it is ever addressed,....   



  1. Updated pro forma reflecting current costs of at least $159,500,000 and no development from Phase I
  2. An Auditor's report on the updated pro forma
  3. Final Costs of Polar Park.   It sure is more then $159,500,000.  We are guessing $175,000,000.
  4.  Completed LDA of  the Left Building Site.
  5. When will Madison actually break ground on any of their projects???
  6. Who is paying for Polar Park police details??   
  7. Where is  the new Polar park Commisson?
  8.  Are real estate taxes going to be paid on the $175 million ballpark which is being leased to a for profit organization.

And nobody is asking city council candidates about these most important issues in debates about an election only a few weeks away, followed by the inevitable massive fax increase.

I would guess that the majority of the public has no idea about the financing aspect of the project. All they know is they attended a game at the beautiful stadium to root for the home team. It's brought a great deal of civic pride to the City. Any canidate that talks trash about that might suffer at the polls.

Keep posting because I bet they are counting on people forgetting the statement that this project would cost us nothing! With regards to Gary's comment about civic pride, which was PURCHASED for $175 million, eventually the luster will wane and we will be faced with the cost on our tax bills and by then a lot of those who pushed the project won't be here to provide an explanation of what happened. I do agree that no one running for City Council will bring this topic up but they are missing the mark. The overbudget ball park is the root cause but it is the "proposed" development which is behind schedule is both the current short and long term problem. The publicly financed over budget ballpark and down sized garage are almost completed but the private development is way behind schedule. I saw some activity across the street but it doesn't seem to be much. The "Cove" development looks like a missing tooth with the building next to the Lucky Dog demolished and puddling with all the rain. I did not expect this project to happen over night but when the City did the project downtown they at least fenced off the area and made it look presentable for when you drove or walked by it. This project in its entirety has been mismanaged.The development is what the City Council should be focused on and should be the topic of continued questions as to the status of each component. The generalized comments from the City Manager will not be enough to make the payments on the bonds when they come due.

The only private development happening in Kelly Sq is on the site of the old Gulf station with the Dunkin. That probably would have happened anyway and nobody got a TIF on the taxpayers back. Their taxes are definitely going up, too. The reward for city taxpayers that try to improve their properties

I wonder what is going to happen when the ballpark gets its forst grafitti tag. Will Larry Lucchino get a ffine and bill from the city like the ordinary property owners who get punished for the city allowing vandals to flourish .

If Polar Park gets tagged, the City will call it art. In all seriousness, after spending $175 million they better have cameras on every square in of this property because I for one do not one cent more of my taxes being paid for an expense at this building.

Now that someone mentioned the Gulf Station, I was driving thru Kelley Square with my wife and she commented that the City should have built the garage on the Gulf Station site so that it could serve both the ball park and Canal District. When I said the Gulf Station was privately owned she immediately stated why didn't they just swap the land with the land where the garage is being built. I am being a Sunday morning quarterback but she is right, the City may have missed an opportunity to be really be transformative by placing the garage off the beaten path. As she continued to remind me, people are not going to drive then walk that distance to go out to eat or shop then carry bags. She also reminded me that we used to park where the ball park is now and walk down the Ash St to go to Crompton Collective. If the City wants to hire her the next time they do a project like this I am sure she would be willing to give her advise.

People won’t park and walk in Worcester? Are there a bunch of fat loads in the city? The same people will go
to Boston, pay $50 to park and walk a mile to their destination. Worcester is a city, not a suburb. You can’t always park for free directly in front of your destination.
